I really wanted this movie to be good. There are both good and bad superhero movies based on DC Comics, and I hoped that this one would fall on the better side - the good movies. This movie had potential to be great, but it ended being just alright. It's by far DC's best movie right now, though, and it gave me more hope for DC's future.
– Update (June 5th) – It's been almost a week since I saw Wonder Woman, and looks like it is getting a lot of praise and higher ratings than what I gave to it. It was good, but I still stand by my words and say that it was just "alright", nothing groundbreaking. I'm honestly surprised by the ratings it is getting. – Story – Wonder Woman (2017) tells a story about Diana (who is Wonder Woman), the Amazon princess who lives on an island called Themyscira. That island is protected by a magical barrier, so the island can’t be seen from outside. The movie begins with Diana’s childhood, showing her passion for fighting. After Diana's childhood backstory she is still training on Themyscira, while there’s WWI (World War I) going on outside her paradise island. Suddenly an American spy pilot comes crashing through the magical barrier. Quickly after some talking with the first man on the island in ages, Diana decides to leave the island with the pilot and kill Ares, the God of War, which according to ancient legends, should end all the wars.
– Thoughts – As a person who didn't know Wonder Woman's origins or any backstory, I think this movie taught it quite well. I will totally see Wonder Woman's next movies, since this movie was a lot better than the previous DC universe movies (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad). DC's movies are going to the better direction.
Gal Gadot did fantastic job as Diana, she really fits to the role of an "Amazon princess".
But I have to say, this movie felt like it was full of coincidences and simply bad decisions from the characters’ perspectives. Diana just followed a random guy to an unknown world, even when she believed that the God of War was coming to destroy the Amazon warriors, and everyone outside Themyscira was influenced by the God of War. So why do you trust a random guy when you also believe that people outside the island want to hurt you? Also, nobody really reacted to Diana's powers realistically. When she takes down a full enemy line, jumps like she was on moon and blocks bullets with those metal arm things like a ninja, everyone just claps their hands and never even ask where did she come from or what the hell she even is.
– Conclusion – I’ll give this movie a rating of 7/10. As I said at the beginning, it was alright, I just think this movie had potential for being a lot better. If you liked Wonder Woman, I recommend watching other superhero movies based on Marvel and DC Comics. The Dark Knight is a great one to start with.
